Having kept schtum about the details of her split from Ashley for the last two years, Cheryl Cole has opened up about their messy divorce during an interview with Alan Carr on Chatty Man.
And she managed to achieve the impossible and make us dislike him even more.
On whether Cheryl gave Ashley a copy of her book (titled Cheryl: My Story), the star nodded and said: “He read the book before it was published. Just ‘there you go – this is what’s going to be happening, this is why – read it’. I thought it was only fair.”
Cheryl described how she felt when she first discovered that Ashley had cheated on her – and the second, third and fourth time
She said: “Heartbreak on its own is a horrible thing to go through – you add the media stuff and it’s pretty tough.
“I mean the shock initially, I would say the first – the initial shock of it was the hardest to take. The next time, when it was like 5, 6, 7, 8 – that was just like, again, again, again, but initially was the hardest part.”
When asked if she “went mental and hit him”, Cheryl replied: “Of course!”
And on whether Ashley had ever apologised to her for cheating, Cheryl shook her head and said: “No, never, never. I still don’t to this day – no. It was really frustrating.
“I think maybe for him that would have been like admitting he was wrong and justifying me leaving the marriage, whereas if he didn’t say anything, he could pretend it wasn’t happening maybe. Kind of sad really.”
And despite all this, Cheryl still said that her relationship with Ashley is “civil”. She must be better at forgiveness than us.
Perhaps the reason why she’s able to let it all go is due to her beautiful new boyfriend Tre Holloway, who Cheryl has been dating for the last few months. The Geordie has never looked so happy, with Tre plastering a huge smile on her face during their very regular (literally every other night) dinner dates.
On how they got together – with Tre being a dancer for Chez – the singer revealed that it was her that did all the chasing!
Cheryl told Alan: “Handsome isn’t he? Yeah. I put it on him. It was me, it was all me.
“I’ve actually, I met him 2 years ago. I had to do a little bit of the chasing. I cast a spell.
“Nothing a bit of sweaty rehearsal can’t sort out.”
Smiling coyly into the audience, because she “gets embarrassed and stuff”, Cheryl confirmed that Girls Aloud love Tre – as does close pal Will.i.am. She said: “Will was actually there with me [at the Girls Aloud party on Sunday], he performed. So he was there with all the girls and Tre and everyone. It was dope.”
