Adele gives birth to baby boy

The 24-year-old singer became a mother on Friday night, although she has yet to release an official statement
Adele has become a mother. Though she is remaining “mum” on the details, the singer reportedly gave birth to a baby boy on Friday night.

“We are not releasing a statement at this time,” Adele’s publicist said following enquiries by Us Weekly and the Daily Mail. But several papers confirmed the happy, healthy birth – the first for Adele, who is 24. The singer’s partner is 38-year-old Simon Konecki.

Adele announced her pregnancy in July, in a post on her website. “Obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time,” she wrote. Although there were reports that the couple had married in August, Adele quashed those rumours over Twitter. “I’m not married … Zzzzzzz,” she tweeted.

Earlier this month, Adele unveiled Skyfall, her song for the forthcoming 23rd James Bond film. The single quickly reached No 2 in the UK charts, and in just three days sold more than 260,000 copies in the US. Skyfall is Adele’s first release since her 2011 album, 21, which has smashed records, selling 18m copies to date.

Whereas 21 is an album of strident melancholy, the followup is expected to reflect Adele’s joyful relationship with Konecki. “He looks after me,” the singer told Vanity Fair this summer. “He’s proud of me, but he don’t care about what I do or what other people think.”
